Pomegranate juice is sweet and sour, in addition to delicious, it also helps prevent disease. According to a report by the National Geographic magazine on July 18, a new study by Kinki University in Japan found that pomegranate juice can inhibit the secretion of “malignant” hormones associated with type 2 diabetes, thereby preventing diabetes. The results were published in the American Journal of Biochemistry and Biophysics Research.
The main cause of type 2 diabetes is the body’s “insulin resistance”, which reduces the secretion of the benign hormone “adiponectin” and the increase of malignant “resistance”.
When the researchers injected the ingredients extracted from the pomegranate juice into mice with high concentrations of resistin in the blood, the results showed that the concentration of resistin in the blood of the mice decreased significantly, showing a tendency to improve blood sugar levels. According to the measurement, the active ingredient is “ellaric acid”, which is an anti-oxidation polyphenol compound which is expected to be used for the development of health care products and functional foods for preventing diabetes.
